Kenneth E. Martin, 52, of Zion, was charged with criminal trespass to occupied residence, a Class 4 felony.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Ayah Elfarra said a woman was at her Waukegan residence on May 13 when she discovered Martin was inside her home.
The two had previously been in a dating relationship.
The woman asked Martin to leave and he refused and became verbally aggressive, Elfarra said.
Martin demanded that the woman “take him back” and threatened the victim by saying she would regret it if she called the police, Elfarra said.
Elfarra said that Martin had a knife next to him while he threatened the woman, who was scared and went to bed.
Martin fell asleep and the victim escaped the home to call 911, Elfarra said.
It was learned that Martin had made entry to the woman’s home by breaking in through a window, which was damaged.
Martin was arrested and admitted to entering the home through the window, Elfarra said.
At the time of the incident, Martin was wanted for failing to appear in court in a criminal case involving the same victim, court records show.
