Man charged in stabbing attack outside Chicago’s Union Station, police say
A 25-year-old man is charged with stabbing a 71-year-old woman Wednesday afternoon as she walked her dog in downtown Chicago, city police announced Thursday.
Wilson Barreno faces felony counts of attempted murder in the first degree, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a person over 60 and the use of a deadly weapon following the stabbing incident outside Union Station on June 5.
The victim, 71-year-old Arlene Rado, was walking her dog Mickey along the 200 block of South Canal Street when she was grabbed from behind with one arm and stabbed multiple times in her back and the back of her neck, her husband told WGN.
Rado said his wife, who was awake and talking when she arrived at Northwestern Memorial Hospital following the 1:30 p.m. attack, initially thought she was being punched until she saw the blood.
She is expected to be OK. The dog was unharmed.
Two bystanders reportedly sprang into action, caught the alleged attacker, Barreno, and held him down until officers arrived and took him into custody.
