Man charged in killing of son’s emotional support dog
Suburban Chicago man charged in killing of son’s emotional support dog.
On the afternoon of Aug. 17, Hanover Park police responded to a home in the 1900 block of Grosse Point Court on the report of possible animal cruelty.
Sandeep Dhillion, 47, of Hanover Park, was taken into custody Monday on a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals stemming from an alleged incident back in August.
Officers at the scene located a 4-year-old Pitbull mix named Ace who was deceased.
He was covered in a blanket with blood visible on him and around the dog, according to police.
Ace was registered with the US Service Animals Official Service and Support Animal Registration and was the emotional support dog of Dhillion’s son, police stated.
Police believe Dhillion was confronted by his children about a half hour before police arrived about Ace’s whereabouts after finding his cage empty with a broken collar in it.
The children then found Ace with a leash around his neck, authorities allege. They called their mother who called police.
At the time of the incident, Dhillion was on pre-trial release for alleged domestic violence, aggravated battery to a peace officer and assault.
A motion will be heard Thursday to revoke his pre-trial release in the domestic violence case and his next court appearance in the animal abuse case is scheduled for Feb. 9.
