Kansas – Officers with the Caney Police Department responded to a stabbing incident in the 600 block of E. 5th St. Caney Ks.
Upon arrival, Officers found Joshua Trotnic 31 years of age of Caney Ks. on a porch suffering from a stab wound.
Trotnic was transported to a hospital for treatment of his wound.
Follow up investigation revealed Trotnic went to the residence after he and another individual at the residence had a disagreement over a drug deal.
Upon arrival in the alley behind the home, Trotnic encountered the victim and engaged in a verbal exchange which resulted in a physical altercation.
There were two juveniles present during the altercation. They were not directly involved in the altercation.
After completion of the investigation, Caney Police submitted the case to the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office for review and possible charging.
On 06/02/2022 a warrant was issued by the Montgomery County District Court charging Trotnic with Battery and two counts of child endangerment.

The Caney Police Department received a 911 call concerning a male subject passed out at a residence in the 600 Block of East 5th St. Caney Ks.
The occupant of the residence did not know who the person was.
Officers with the Caney Police Department responded to that location and found a male subject suffering from a knife cut wound on the front porch of a residence.
Officers rendered life saving measures to the male until ambulance personnel arrived on scene. The man was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition.
Officers were able to determine that there was an altercation between two men had occurred in the alley of the 600 block of East 5th, which resulted in one man being injured.
Officers with the Caney Police Department are conducting an investigation into the altercation. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
At this time, no names are being released due to it being an active investigation.
Once the investigation is completed, the case will be forwarded to the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office for review and charging if warranted.
There is no threat to the public because of this incident.
Chief Kitterman commended his officers for their quick response and recognizing the man injured needed immediate lifesaving attention which resulted in saving his life.
