Law enforcement took Jacob Travis Long, 34, of Spokane, into custody Thursday night, Dec. 15, in the Buford, North Dakota, area, according to a news release from the Williams County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged Friday morning with murder, a felony that carries a maximum punishment of life in prison.
Authorities identified the victim as Long’s wife, 30-year-old Meagan Lindquist, of Williston. A motive for the killing has not been released.
The arrest came nearly 36 hours after residents found Lindquist’s body between 1 and 2 a.m. Wednesday outside someone else’s home in the Buford area. Court documents said she had a gunshot wound to her head and bruising around her neck.
On Tuesday, a witness named Joseph Viall was called to help tow Long’s vehicle after it became stuck, a criminal complaint said. Viall told officers he saw a woman running from the stuck vehicle and Long pursuing her, according to court documents.
