April 18, 2021- 2:00 p.m
On Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at approx. 1609, police are searching for Xavier Lopez, 29, who is on parole for assault with a firearm and parole violation. Lopez successfully evaded police on Tuesday, April 12 and is also wanted for that incident.
Officers locate Lopez in front of 4610 Tomlinson Ave and approach him to take him into custody. As a group of officers converge on Lopez, Lopez reaches into his trench coat with his right hand and begins to draw a black pistol.
One officer shoots Lopez twice in his chest, collapsing him in the driveway of the residence.
After Lopez is handcuffed, an officer searches him for the pistol—the pistol is found in Lopez’s inner front left jacket pocket, fully loaded. Lopez was rushed to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
He was subsequently released from the hospital on February 8, 2021 and charged with felon in possession of a firearm, felony evading, exhibit firearm, parole violation, willful resist and assault with a deadly weapon.
No officers were injured in this incident and the involved officer is on routine paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
