A Tulsa man has been charged in a case where he’s accused of taking money from his 86 year old grandmother who’s in hospice and has dementia.
The affidavit for William Yip says back in September, he called a bank and requested a debit card and a checkbook for his grandmother.
It says she was admitted to a home last July and put on hospice and a doctor’s letter states she’s not capable of making any decisions on her own and her son has had power of attorney since 2012.
It says Yip withdrew $3,260 out of her account, then made these withdrawals as well:
September 9: $400 and $600
September 10: $600
September 11: $540 and $300
September 12: $520 and $300
It says when police talked to him, he insisted his grandmother gave him permission to make the withdrawals.
It says he told officers he spent about $100 on food for her and the rest, he used for his personal expenses.
Records show he has the following convictions:
2018: misdemeanor DUI-drugs in Cleveland
2018: felony violation of protective order in Tulsa County
2018: misdemeanor DUI-drugs in Tulsa County
For those 3 cases, he was sentenced to 1 year in prison.
2013: misdemeanor domestic assault and battery and violation of protective order in Tulsa County; 1 year deferred sentence.
