Authorities said on Monday that a man who is suspected of dismembering his ex-girlfriend and storing her body parts in luggage in Brooklyn lived with her dismembered body for a month.
Justin Williams, 24, of Harlem utilized towels and cleaning items to cover the smell coming from the two bags at the home of his killed ex, D’Asia Johnson, 22, investigators said in new court papers.
“This defendant is accused of the horrific murder and dismemberment of his former girlfriend,” Gonzalez said in a statement.
“While we can’t erase the tragic and cruel death of D’Asia Johnson, we are fully committed to bringing this defendant to justice.”Â
Prosecutors said Williams stabbed Johnson nine times in the early hours of Aug. 22, after she returned home from work on Aug. 21. Williams and Johnson had dated “for several years” before he attacked her, the DA’s office said.
After he stabbed Johnson, Williams dismembered her body and hid her remains in two suitcases, according to prosecutors. Williams then “resided in the apartment for a month and used towels and cleaning products to mask the smell,” the release said.
He only fled the home on Linwood Street, near Atlantic Avenue in Cypress Hills, on Sept. 21, after building personnel called police to Johnson’s apartment to conduct a wellness check, police and prosecutors said.
Officers discovered Johnson’s remains inside the suitcases during the wellness check, prosecutors said. The city’s Medical Examiner said her death was caused by multiple stab wounds to the torso.
Williams’ attorney information wasn’t immediately available Monday.Â
