On Tuesday, May 31, 2022, a deputy heard several shots while patrolling the area of 600 Homestead Road South in Lehigh Acres.
The suspect, later identified as James William Gonzalez (DOB 1/21/1997), was seen running nearby from the victim who was working at a food stand.
The deputy attempted to apprehend Gonzalez while shouting verbal commands, but Gonzalez continued running into the wood line.
Deputies rendered aid to the victim on scene, and then transported him to the hospital as a trauma alert.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, Aviation Unit, and multiple patrol units saturated the area and set up a perimeter in an attempt to locate Gonzalez.

A K-9 track led deputies to find Gonzalez in the area of Dauphine Avenue South.
Gonzalez refused to obey lawful orders and continued resisting.
K-9 Bane apprehended Gonzalez allowing deputies to gain compliance.
Gonzalez was taken to the hospital and later transported to the Lee County Jail after medical clearance.
James William Gonzalez was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Resisting without Violence.
The case remains under investigation.
