Pres. Biden has approved a major disaster declaration for Florida residents in Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Hardee, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pinellas and Sarasota counties.
Ian has weakened into a tropical storm after making landfall along the southwestern coast of Florida near Cayo Costa as a powerful Category 4 hurricane Wednesday. It’s tied for the strongest hurricane to make landfall on the west coast of the Florida peninsula.
The extremely dangerous conditions that Ian is unleashing — including catastrophic floods and life-threatening storm surge — will continue as the storm moves across the state and north toward Georgia and South Carolina.
