Texas- At 10:26 a.m., the San Antonio Police Department reported that patrol officers are investigating a “shots fired” call off Medina Base Road, which is located outside of Lackland’s gate. SAPD says there is not an active shooter on base at this time and there is not a threat to the public. Officers are continuing their investigation.
In a follow-up, SAPD said a call was received for shots fired at Cedarhurst Drive and Ferncroft, but no hits were reported.
At 11:06 a.m., Joint Base San Antonio reiterated the report of the gunshots occurring off-base, but near Lackland.
While there is not a threat to personnel, all facilities on Truemper Road, from Valley Hi to Carswell Avenue, remain locked down as security forces complete operations.
Personnel outside of the cordoned area have been released, but the Valley Hi gate remains closed. JBSA is asking people to keep the area clear and is saying the base is working with SAPD “to ensure a safe environment.”
