Conyers Police Officers engaged in a vehicle pursuit this afternoon that spanned from the City of Conyers to DeKalb County before the vehicle was disabled just before Wesley Chapel Road on I-20 westbound. The vehicle was a mortuary van parked at a crematory that did contain a body on a gurney. Upon the suspect’s flight, the gurney did roll out of the open back hatch and into the parking lot where it came to rest. Personnel on site were able to secure the body.
After striking multiple vehicles on I-20, a tire blew on the van causing the suspect to stop and run on foot north of the interstate into the wood line between Panola Road and Wesley Chapel.
DeKalb County Police Department, DKPD K-9s, Georgia State Patrol and a HERO unit came to our aid in securing a perimeter in the area. Unfortunately, the suspect, identified as Kijon Griffin, was not captured.
Griffin is at large and wanted for several felonies at this time. If you have any information as to his whereabouts, you may contact Crime Stoppers.
