Washington – Prosecutors said the victim encountered the suspect and his girlfriend engaging in a sexual act and recorded it on his cell phone before the shooting.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office has charged 20-year-old Khiryan Monroe with one count of first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bail.
Monroe voluntarily surrendered himself to police. Monroe is accused of shooting Servando Hamros in the head on July 14. Both families were in court Wednesday.
Hamros’ father, Servando Camargo, said he’s happy an arrest has been made.
He shoot and killed a father who was out playing Pokemon Go with his daughter.
Hamros was shot and killed in front of his 7-year-old daughter in a park along the North Shore Channel in Evanston.
Prosecutors said Hamros encountered Monroe and his girlfriend engaging in a sexual act and Hamros recorded it on his cell phone.
Monroe then went home, got a gun and returned to the park, firing approximately 17 shots. Hamros was struck multiple times including once in the head, according to prosecutors.
Statement: “I just want justice for my son,” Camargo said. “Hopefully, we’ll get justice.”
Prosecutors said they have video footage showing Monroe and his girlfriend returning to their home with a weapon and then a person exiting the home wearing latex gloves, carrying something in a bag.
