Residents of Kagiso – a township west of Johannesburg – are protesting against illegal miners (known colloquially as ‘zama-zamas’) in the area.
These miners, many of them are undocumented immigrants, are alleged to be responsible for a mass rape incident last week; as many as 130 zama-zamas have been arrested in relation to it.
