Baltimore City police said three 14-year-olds were arrested Thursday after an armed robbery, armed commercial robbery and armed carjacking.
Police said the teens — one of them armed with a ghost gun — robbed and carjacked a rideshare driver around 6 a.m. on East Biddle Street.
Police said the young trio then drove the stolen car to a convenience store in north Baltimore, where a witness said the teens stormed into the store acting aggressively.
They all stood out and were likely captured on surveillance cameras. One of the suspects forgot to pull up his mask and another was dressed in dark clothing.
A third was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and holding a black handgun, demanding money from the cashier. Police said the teens made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Investigators said the teens fled in the stolen rideshare car. A witness told 11 News the teens sped off, driving all over the road.
Police said investigators managed to track the vehicle to a house on Appleton Street, where officers recovered the vehicle and a handgun and arrested the three teenagers.
Community reaction was strong, as residents are fed up and pointing fingers at parents and the juvenile justice system as the cause of the problem.
“It is our job to give them the resources to survive. We are not doing that. So, they are surviving on what they see on Facebook, Instagram and on TV, (which) is to put a gun in your hand (and) go take what you want, not work for it,” said Tony Henson, of Baltimore.
