Speaking on air from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Reid explained she has begun to hear complaints from senior leaders about those attacking Biden. Such voices, she said, may be benefiting from foul play.
“There is a sense that there is gamesmanship going on inside of this effort to remove President Biden from the ticket and that that gamesmanship is heavily geared toward also pushing aside Kamala Harris,” she said.
“There is a sense that there is a lot of pressure coming from— some people are just calling it California at this point.”
Several major Democratic leaders have called on Biden to abandon his reelection bid in recent weeks.
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., became one of the latest to do so Wednesday, citing Biden’s potential inability to beat his opponent former President Donald Trump.
“[Biden] has been one of the most consequential presidents in our nation’s history, and his lifetime of service as a Senator, a Vice President, and now as President has made our country better,” Rep. Schiff’s statement reportedly reads. “But our nation is at a crossroads.
A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the President can defeat Donald Trump in November.”
