RawNews1st – A 19-year-old Arvada man is in the Weld County Jail after pointing a “rifle” at an armed security guard at a party near Keenesburg.
Jovanni Chavez-Nava was booked on one count of felony menacing. He is being held without bond pending his first appearance in court.
Weld County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a harassment call in the 35000 block of Weld County Road 16, which is located east of Keenesburg and south of Roggen.
The caller, an armed guard hired to provide security for a party, told dispatchers the driver of a black pickup just drove by pointing a rifle at him and he fired his handgun at the vehicle in self-defense.

Once on scene, deputies learned the driver of the pickup had been removed from the party by the security guard for fighting.
About 30 minutes later, the driver returned, slowly drove passed the party, rolled down his window and brandished what appeared to be a rifle, resting the barrel on the passenger side door.
Fearing for his life, the security guard drew his holstered handgun and fired 11 shots at the pickup.
The pickup sped from the scene. The driver was later identified as Chavez-Nava when he was contacted by Denver police after crashing his pickup in the 5500 block of Troy Street.
Chavez-Nava told officers he lost control because he was running from people who had shot at him at a party near Keenesburg.
Denver police held Chavez-Nava until deputies could respond to speak with him about the incident. Chavez-Nava declined to speak with deputies but agreed to a consent search of his vehicle.
While searching the pickup, deputies noted it had 10 bullet holes. No rifle was found, but deputies did locate a tire iron in the backseat of the pickup, which, when pointed at someone, resembles the end of a rifle barrel.
Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime is asked to call the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at (970) 356-4015 or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
