Police say 20 year old Jonathan Sapirman was identified as the suspect in the shooting on Sunday at the Greenwood Park Mall. He walked to the mall from Polo Run Apartments, less than a mile away with over 100 rounds of ammunition. He locked himself in the bathroom of the food court for over an hour prior to the incident.
Police recovered the shooters cell phone in the mall bathroom toilet and raided his home overnight and recovered a laptop that was in the oven baking.
Elisjsha Dicken, 22 year old from Seymour was identified as the Good Samaritan. Police say he fired 10 rounds hitting the suspect and killing him. Afterward, he approached mall security to identify himself.
The Good Samaritan engaged in fire, 2 minutes after Sapirman began firing.
Dicken had no police training or military background, according to police. He was carrying under the new “Constitutional Carry” law and did not have a permit. Law enforcement officials say he saved many lives Sunday evening.
Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers says, “This person saved lives tonight. On behalf of the City of Greenwood, I am grateful for his quick action and heroism in this situation.”
Police say the suspect fired 24 rounds into the food court of the Greenwood Park Mall before he died. Sapirman carried in 3 weapons and multiple magazines full of ammunition.
Family members of Sapirman are surprised after learning of the incident.
VICTIMS: Pedro Pineda, 56 and his wife Rosa Mirian Rivera, 37. 30 year old Victor Gomez was also killed in this shooting at the #Greenwood Park Mall.
The others hurt were taken to a local hospital. A 12 year old and 22 year old female.
If belongings were left behind by those inside or bystanders, police say to go to the Greenwood training center with and ID to retrieve those items.
