Around 10:50 a.m., police say officers responded to the 1600 block of South Michigan Avenue in Villa Park, Illinois.
Upon arrival, they found a woman bleeding on the floor of a back bedroom. Officers performed aid to her until paramedics arrived.
She was taken to a local hospital, where she died just before 11:30 a.m.
The victim was identified as 24-year-old Jessica Reyes.
Authorities say they believe 26-year-old Anthony Jimenez took a phone away from his mother, who had allegedly called 911, and told the dispatchers “I stabbed my girlfriend in the neck,” and “She can’t breathe. Please hurry.”
Allegedly Jimenez told police the two were arguing in his bedroom when he accused her of being unfaithful. She left but returned to retrieve some belongings from the bedroom.
Jimenez allegedly told police that he locked the bedroom door behind them to prevent her from leaving.
Reyes allegedly told Jimenez that they should take a break in the relationship. As Reyes began collecting her belongings, Jimenez pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed Jessica in the side of her head.
Reyes fought back, but Jimenez continued to stab her a total of 12 times about her neck, face, arms, chest, and hands.
Jimenez allegedly stopped stabbing Reyes when his mother entered the room.
Another man in the apartment was able to get into the bedroom and dragged Jimenez out.
Jimenez was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
