Jermall Charlo returns for his first fight of 2021.
One of boxing’s premier middleweights returns to the ring for the first time in 2021, as Jermall Charlo defends the WBC middleweight title against Juan Macias Montiel at the Toyota Center in Charlo’s hometown of Houston on Saturday night.
Charlo comes back after his most impressive performance at 160 pounds in September, when he defeated former title challenger Sergiy Derevyanchenko via unanimous decision.
Unable to secure a big fight, Charlo is taking on Montiel in a stay busy contest in hopes of being able to land an eventual clash with either Canelo Alvarez or Gennadiy Golovkin.
“I’ll keep fighting who they put in front of me,” Charlo told DAZN News last month.
“The fights are going to happen sooner than later, but I gotta fight who they put in front of me at the moment.
“I’m coming,” he added. “I’m on the way.”The 27-year-old Montiel is coming off his biggest win back in December, knocking out James Kirkland.
Can the native of Mexico pull off the massive upset or does Charlo successfully defend his belt for the fourth time?
DAZN News will have live coverage of Jermall Charlo vs. Juan Macias Montiel starting at 9 p.m. ET.
