Jamal Murray led Denver in scoring with 37 points, however, Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic might’ve been even better. He scored 23 points to go along with 17 rebounds, 12 assists and three steals.
Late in the first quarter, Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell was called for a common foul after making contact with a driving Jamal Murray. A review was then initiated to determine whether it was worthy of a flagrant, and after some discussion, a flagrant 1 was indeed handed to Russell.
ESPN’s Jeff Van Gundy was quick to criticize officials for what he believed to be the incorrect call.
“This league astounds me,” Van Gundy said. “What do we want D’Angelo Russell to do? Get out of the way?”
Van Gundy’s criticisms didn’t stop there.
Just a few seconds after the flagrant foul was called on Russell, the ESPN commentator joked about the NBA’s ‘flopping’ problem after an exchange between Jokic and Anthony Davis.
