Israel says no ceasefire in Gaza yet.

US President Donald Trump reports Hamas faces “complete obliteration” if the group refuses to cede power and control of Gaza, amid ongoing efforts to push forward his proposed ceasefire plan.

“Complete Obliteration!” Trump told CNN’s Jake Tapper when asked via text message yesterday what would happen if Hamas insists on staying in power.

Tapper pressed the president on Hamas’ response to his 20-point ceasefire proposal, citing Sen. Lindsey Graham’s interpretation that Hamas had effectively rejected the plan by insisting on “no disarmament, keeping Gaza under Palestinian control and tying hostage release to negotiations.”

Delegations from Hamas, Israel and the United States are headed to Egypt to try and finalize a Gaza ceasefire deal after both warring sides agreed to move forward with a US proposal to end the nearly two-year conflict.

• US President Donald Trump is keeping pressure on Israel and Hamas to move forward with the plan. Trump says Israel has agreed to an initial withdrawal line, and that a ceasefire would be “immediately effective” if Hamas also approves.

Despite Trump’s assertion that Israel had “temporarily stopped” bombing the enclave, dozens of people were killed Saturday in Israeli strikes with at least 15 more so far today, according to information from Gaza’s hospitals.

NOTE:

Hamas announced that it has accepted several parts of the peace plan put forth by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to finally end Israel’s war on Gaza.

Hamas has agreed to release the remaining Israeli captives it holds and is willing to hand over administration of Gaza to a technocratic committee proposed by the plan.

However, Hamas did not say it would disarm. Nor did it agree to withdraw from Palestinian politics fully. Instead, it said the future of the Gaza Strip and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people should be decided on the basis of a “collective national position” and relevant international laws and resolutions.

With ceasefire talks resuming in Egypt on Monday, Netanyahu said he expected the hostages to be quickly released and Trump said he believes Hamas is “ready for a lasting peace”.
