A deadly winter storm continued to sweep across portions of the Southern Plains and the Southeast on Wednesday (Feb. 1), disrupting travel and prompting widespread power outages in Texas, where more than 1,000 flights were canceled.
By 8 p.m. Eastern time, more than 347,000 customers in Texas were without electricity, according to PowerOutage.us, which aggregates data from utilities across the country.
More than 2,300 flights within, into, or out of the United States had been canceled as of Wednesday afternoon, according to FlightAware, a flight-tracking company.
About half of the canceled flights across the country were reported in Texas, with more than 1,000 flights grounded at airports in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston.
