Husband of Belarusian opposition figure Tikhanovskaya handed 18 years in jail
Activist Sergey Tikhanovsky, the husband of Western-backed opposition figure Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, has been given an 18-year sentence “in a high-security penal colony,” by a Belarusian court Tuesday.
Tikhanovsky was accused of inciting hatred and discord in society after his involvement in organising mass unrest following last summer’s presidential election, according to local media.
Three other opposition figures – Nikolay Statkevich, Igor Losik, and Vladimir Tsyganovich – were also found guilty in the same trial, Belta added.
