Washington – It became known that the first two of the 12 Aero Vodohody L-39NG combat training aircraft ordered by Vietnam are already in production, the delivery of the first aircraft to the customer is scheduled for July 2023.
Hungary will begin receiving the first of 12 L-39NGs on order starting in July 2024.
The 12 aircraft will also be fitted with the new LPP mission computer (also referred to as the display processor), which allows Aero to change the data in the L-39NGs multifunction displays (MFDs) and head-up display (HUD) to a Russian format.
Due to the additional work required in producing the ‘Eastern’ versions of the platform, they are more expensive than those that would be manufactured in a ‘Western setup’, like the Hungarian examples will be.
They also noted that the firm is still pushing to secure L-39NG sales in Malaysia – which now has an open tender for such a type – and that discussions with Thailand continue, but there is nothing tangible (as yet).
The firm reports that there has also been interest in the platform from Indonesia.
The company is also promoting this aircraft in a tender in Malaysia.
