Human remains were discovered in East Chicago on Sunday afternoon, according to Indiana police.
East Chicago police officers were dispatched to 149th Place and Parrish Avenue after someone discovered what appeared to be a human skull near the railroad tracks.
Further investigation revealed the bottom jaw of the skull.
The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force returned to the area and searched more thoroughly. Using a drone and cadaver K9, investigators discovered a jacket and a portion of a vertebrae.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force are investigating.
