Hot Sauce Argument Leads to Deadly Stabbing, Man Convicted

On September 22, 2024, authorities responded to a residence in the 2300 block of North Federal Boulevard in Denver, Colorado. Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from stab wounds following a reported altercation inside the home. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The victim was identified as 39-year-old Robert Vigil.

According to court records, the incident stemmed from an argument inside the home involving a request for hot sauce while someone was preparing food. Investigators say 20-year-old George Vigil told officers the condiment was located upstairs, which led to a verbal dispute that quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.

During the altercation, George Vigil stabbed his uncle, causing critical injuries.

Authorities took George Vigil into custody at the scene. He was initially charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal stabbing.

Following a four-day trial, a jury found George Vigil guilty on the lesser charge of manslaughter after approximately five hours of deliberation.

Prosecutors stated the incident was the result of a domestic dispute that escalated into deadly violence. George Vigil is scheduled to be sentenced on August 22, where he faces between two and six years in prison.
