CHICAGO -A woman was killed in a hit-and-run after a nearby shooting was reported Sunday morning in Horner Park on the Northwest Side.
Surveillance video shows the moment a Nissan Rogue carrying two people slams into this North Center gas station just after 3 a.m. A 37-year-old female passenger was thrown from the car and killed, despite first responders best attempts to revive her.
The SUV she was in was struck by a grey toyota Camry, which moments earlier had been speeding westbound on Irving Park Road from Damen Avenue as shots were fired, according to police.
A K9 Unit that spotted the scene unfold as it was happening gave chase, witnessing the deadly collision.
“He heard shots being fired. He sees muzzle flash coming from a Toyota sedan vehicle. The officer activates his lights. Calls it into the zone,” said Migdalia Bulnes, deputy chief of the Bureau of Detectives, during a press conference later Sunday morning. “After striking the Nissan vehicle proceeded to spin around and landed by the gas station by the alley.”
However, Bulnes said it was not immediately clear how the shooting originated.
The woman was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she died, police said.
She hasn’t been identified yet.
