Daytona Beach man who shot, killed girlfriend was aiming for her ex-boyfriend.
There was a massive police presence in the area of Glenview Boulevard near Peninsula Drive. Officials said that SWAT was being called in. Police temporarily shut down Halifax Avenue between Seabreeze Boulevard and University Boulevard.
The suspect was not in the house that police had surrounded for hours and units are beginning to leave the area.
Police believe he escaped early on and may have been picked up.
Three schools in the area were locked down, but those lockdowns have been lifted for Ortona Elementary, Our Lady of Lourdes and Riverview Learning Center.
According to Police Chief Jakari Young, 30-year-old Karli Elliott and her ex-boyfriend got into an argument at a 7-Eleven and then went in separate directions.
Young said Elliott then called her current boyfriend, 37-year-old Chad Keene.
Elliott walked around the corner at Glenview Boulevard and Keene shot her on accident, intending to shoot Elliott’s ex-boyfriend.
The ex-boyfriend responded to the scene to give aid and is not considered a suspect, Young said.
Elliott died at the hospital.
