Locall10.com – A Hollywood police officer is recovering after being injured during a shooting Thursday morning, authorities confirmed.
Deanna Bettineschi, a spokeswoman with the Hollywood Police Department, confirmed that the officer is “being treated for their injuries at the hospital,” but is expected to recover. The officer’s identity, age or gender has not been disclosed.
Authorities said the incident began just after 9:30 a.m. when the Hollywood police received a call about a “neighbor dispute” at a home near the intersection of North 66th Terrace and Eaton Street.
Upon arrival, the responding officer met with the caller, but shortly thereafter, a physical altercation ensued between the officer and an individual, Bettineschi said.
During the struggle, the officer discharged their gun, though additional details about the shooting remain unclear, according to investigators.
When asked during a news conference if anyone was arrested or detained, Bettineschi deferred those questions to the FDLE, which has taken over the case. “There are no additional suspects at this time,” she stated.
Questions also remain about the nature of the dispute that led to the officer’s involvement. Local 10 News has reached out to FDLE for further clarification.
Officers and detectives were seen entering and leaving a home in the area multiple times.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement customarily investigates the use of force aspect of an officer-involved shooting, but tends not to be the incident lead or arresting agency.
No other details about the incident were immediately released.
