RawNews1st – Heidi Matheny, 35, downed her 93-year-old grandmother, Alice Matheny, in the bathtub of their Eaton, Ohio home.
On November 15, 2022, around 6:00 p.m., Heidi Matheny walked into a police station and told officers she had killed her grandmother.
When police investigated the possible murder on the 300 block of East Somers Street, they found Alice Matheny, 93, in the bathtub dead.
They took her granddaughter, Heidi Matheny, who had already confessed, into custody, and continued to interview her.
Heidi told police the day had started off normal. She had taken her grandmother to a doctor’s appointment.
When they arrived back home, they both ate ice cream together. Alice started doing the dishes when Heidi walked up behind her, pushed her head down, and held it there “until the bubbles stopped”.
She then brought her grandmother to the bathtub and held her under the water to make sure she was dead. Afterwards, Heidi walked to the nearby police station to confess.
Heidi told police her grandmother did nothing in particular, but she was tired of taking care of her. At the doctor’s appointment, she found out her insurance did not cover nursing home costs. She also told the police that Alice was “the perfect freaking grandmother”.
Heidi was charged with murder and is being held on $500,000 bail.
