Hackers from North Korea stole $400 million in crypto last year
Threat actors from the hermit kingdom allegedly stole around $400 million worth of cryptocurrency via a bevy of cyberattacks on a number of digital currency outlets in 2021.
“Once North Korea gained custody of the funds, they began a careful laundering process to cover up and cash out,” blockchain data platform Chainalysis said Thursday.
Pyongyang is under a number of international sanctions targeting the nation’s economy, in response it’s thought the country has employed an army of well-trained hackers who extract funds to fund the state’s weapons programs.
