Update: Elizabethtown gunman Christopher Michael Elder shot himself in Christian County after a standoff.

This morning, a shooting in Hardin County has resulted in additional fatalities.

The following details have been provided by Elizabethtown Police and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office:

  • The incident occurred in the 100 block of E. Dixie Ave.
  • The suspect, Christopher Elder, is in critical condition and has been transported to Vanderbilt Hospital in Tennessee following a gunshot wound to the head.

  • A vehicle pursuit involving the Hopkinsville Police Department, Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office, and Kentucky State Police was conducted. During the pursuit, the suspect repeatedly pointed a rifle at the officers.

Shooter at large wanted arm and dangerous after 3 people shot outside Hardin County

  • The deceased at the scene has been identified as 37-year-old Erica Riley of Elizabethtown. Her mother, 71-year-old Janet Rylee of Hardinsburg, who was also injured, later died at the hospital.
  • An additional victim is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
