HUNGER GAINS? Global food prices continue to soar — hit 10-YEAR PEAK highs, UN food agency says
World food prices rose in September for a second consecutive month to reach a 10-year high, driven by rising prices for cereals and vegetable oils, the UN food agency said Thursday.
The Food and Agriculture Organization’s food price index, which tracks international prices of the most globally traded food commodities, averaged 130.0 points last month, the highest reading since September 2011, according to the agency’s data.
The FAO also noted that on a year-on-year basis, prices were up 32.8% in September than this time in 2020.
