Gives First Assessment of the West’s Response to Moscow’s Security Proposals
President Putin told his French counterpart Macron Friday that Russia will closely study the responses received from NATO and the US and only then decide on any next steps.
The Russian leader lamented that NATO’s and the US’ response did not address many Russian concerns, such as limiting NATO’s eastwards expansion and deployment of military facilities at the border, as well as cutting back the Alliance presence in Europe to their 1997 levels.
Putin has also pointed out that NATO and the US ignoring the principle of indivisibility of security directly contradicts the OSCE and the Russia-NATO agreements.
