The two teenage girls arrested for abducting an infant, sparking an Amber Alert, could be charged with conspiring to kill the baby’s mother before they took him.
For 11 terrifying hours March 23, 3-month-old Anthony Crudup Jr. was missing.
She didn’t want us to show her face but did say she let two teenage girls into her home because they said they were being sex trafficked and needed protection.
“I was going to send them a Lyft but I dozed off and they left with my baby,” Cureton said.
Those girls, 14 and 16, were arrested 11 hours later, accused of taking off with the baby when Cureton fell asleep.
He was unharmed when he was found inside a house a few blocks away.
Now, WISN 12 News learned they’re facing juvenile charges of abduction of a child, and according to a prosecutor in court, “it’s very likely that there will be additional charges related to them conspiring to kill the victim’s mother prior to taking the baby.”
Because the girls are juveniles, even in a case as serious as this one, WISN 12 News has been denied access to the details of the charges by the presiding judge at Children’s Court.
WISN 12 News reporter Nick Bohr was allowed to attend the hearings Tuesday but not record or identify the girls because they’re juveniles.
Bohr spoke with the baby’s mom again Tuesday who told him the girls took advantage of her kindness.
“I feel like they should get some kind of time. They should be punished,” Cureton said.
Both girls will remain in secure juvenile detention awaiting their next court appearances later this month.
