France’s tech regulator has imposed its record fine of $170mn on Google for its use of user-tracking cookies, with Facebook handed a $67mn fine for similar charges.
The National Commission for Information Technology and Freedom (CNIL) has given the Big Tech firms three months to alter practices to make it as easy to reject cookies as to accept them – or face fines of $113k a day.
The previous highest cookie-related fine levied on Big Tech by the CNIL was for $113mn, also to Google, in December 2020.
