Fossil Fuel Firms SUE Govts Globally for $18bn Over Climate Action Policies (Sky News Report)
Fossil fuel companies believe govt policies on climate change have threatened their profits and have now launched lawsuits, according to research by campaign group Global Justice Now.
Five energy companies have initiated a legal process that allows commercial entities to sue govts under international law governing trade agreements and treaties.
TC Energy, RWE, Uniper, Rockhopper and Ascent Resources are collectively suing the Dutch, Italian, Slovenian and US govts for more than $18bn.
