A previous minister has been accused in the US of the snatching and murder of an eight-year-old young lady almost 50 years prior.
Examiners say they have charged 83-year-old David Zandstra, of Marietta, Georgia, regarding the passing of Gretchen Harrington, from Marple in Pennsylvania.
Gretchen disappeared in August 1975 while walking from her home to a summer bible camp. Her remains were found in October that year in a nearby state park.
The identity of her killer has remained a mystery for the last 48 years.
Mr Zandstra, who was the pastor of the church which hosted the summer camp, was interviewed in October 1975 over Gretchen’s death, but denied seeing her on the date she was abducted.
Notwithstanding, Delaware Area Lead prosecutor’s Office said on Monday Mr Zandstra had “conceded” Gretchen’s homicide in the wake of being stood up to with proof that he physically attacked one more young lady around a similar time.
“Finally I can declare today that her executioner – David Zandstra – has owned up to his wrongdoing,” said Head prosecutor Stollsteimer.
“Equity has been bound to happen, yet we are pleased and thankful to at last have the option to offer the local area a response.
“The homicide of Gretchen Harrington has tormented individuals from policing that awful day in August 1975.
