Ford has recalled more than 197,000 cars over a door issue that can leave passengers, especially children, trapped in the back seat.

Ford is recalling over 197,000 Mustang Mach-E SUVs, model years 2021-2025, due to a door latch issue that could trap passengers, especially children, in the back seat.

The issue arises when the battery charge is low, preventing the electronic door latches from disengaging when the front occupants exit the vehicle and close the doors, according to Repairer Driven News

This could leave backseat occupants unable to use the inside door release handles to exit the vehicle.

The auto giant warned that an inability to enter or exit the vehicle in an emergency increases the risk of injury.

As a result, Ford recalled a total of 197,432 Mach-Es in the United States and 120,000 in international markets.

No injuries have been reported so far and a software update will fix the issue, a spokesperson told CBS News.
