Since Mid-March of this year Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple calls for service involving motor vehicle breaking and entering’s, and vehicle thefts in Pisgah National Forest and other areas within Transylvania County.
Detectives were able to obtain surveillance footage of a suspect and a vehicle of interest at places were credit cards had been used which were stolen from reported vehicle break ins.
On 06/15/2022 TCSO investigators sent a be on the lookout email to patrol officers, later that evening TCSO Deputies set up a Vehicle Safety Checkpoint in the Pisgah National Forest.
Shortly after setting up the checking station the vehicle from the email approached the Check Point.
At this point the deputies identified the vehicle and two occupants and compared them with surveillance videos.
Deputies and Detectives were able to positively Identify the suspects as Jared Cole Griffin and Christina Elesie King both of Seneca S.C.
Griffin and King were arrested on the roadside and charged with Various Crimes.
TCSO Detectives seized the vehicle and property with in the vehicle and applied for a search warrant to completely search the vehicle.
TCSO Detectives obtained the search warrant and searched the vehicle and processed the evidence within the vehicle.
Evidence with in the vehicle links Griffin and King to multiple Vehicle Break In’s and Vehicle Thefts spanning across at least three possibly four states.
The investigation is ongoing currently Griffin and King have been charged with the following charges in Transylvania County.
• Break and Enter Motor Vehicle
• Financial Card Theft
• Simple Possession SCH VI
• Felony Possession SCH I
• Possession with intent to manufacture/sell/distribute methamphetamine
• Possession of burglary tools
• Larceny of motor vehicle X2
• Felony larceny
• Larceny of motor vehicle parts X2
• Misdemeanor Larceny
• No Operators License
• Possession of Counterfeit Currency
• Displaying fictitious registration/tag
Multiple other local, state and federal agencies are assisting with the investigations pertaining to their jurisdictions.
Griffin is currently being held at the Transylvania County Detention Center under a $50,500 Bond, King Is currently being held at the Transylvania County Detention Center under a $52,500 Bond.
