SCAM COIN: FBI warns of increased use of crypto ATMs & QR codes
Fraudsters are reportedly scheming to leave near-zero trace by asking victims to use cryptocurrency ATMs and QR codes – making it harder to recover financial losses.
The Bureau’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) posted this warning:
“The FBI has seen an increase in scammers directing victims to use physical cryptocurrency ATMs and digital QR codes to complete payment transactions.”
One tactic flagged up was online impersonation claiming to be a govt, law enforcement or company representative. It’s said criminals have also increased using so-called romance schemes to establish a relationship.
