Facebook Sued for $150bn Over Rohingya “Genocide” Role

A lawsuit claiming $150bn in damages has been filed on behalf of 10k Rohingya against Facebook for the Big Tech platform’s role in a hate speech campaign that left around 10k of the refugees dead.

Facebook was “willing to trade the lives of the Rohingya people for better market penetration in a small country in south-east Asia,” according to the lawsuit itself, which argues the platform was aware of posts targeting the Rohingya for years – that eventually turned into a “substantial cause” of their “genocide.” 

After admitting it had not done enough to stop the incitement of hatred in 2018, Facebook launched an independent report concluding it bore some responsibility
