FB “fixing” Instagram after Haugen testimony – trusting algorithms to decide what’s best

Facebook VP of Global Affairs Nick Clegg claims the platform is responding to accusations of welfare carelessness, and has already invested $13bn on “this kind of work” – but insisted the automated systems would decide how to direct kids from certain content. (CNN)

Clegg explained the controversial Instagram Kids project has been shelved for now, while a new function will “nudge” children away from potentially harmful content the systems detect they are viewing repeatedly.

He also backed a review of Section 230 liability protection for social media platforms, saying it should be “contingent on them applying the systems and their policies as they are supposed to.”
