Facebook could face over $50MN bill with first-ever turnover fine from Russia
Russia’s media watchdog Roskomnadzor has slapped FB with its first turnover fine for failing to remove banned content, and could demand 5-10% of the giant’s take in the country – potentially over $50MN according to Vedemosti reports, citing experts. A court will make the final decision on the percentage.
It’s reported Facebook and Instagram still haven’t removed over 2,000 banned items, and were slow to remove others.
FB has already been fined about $1MN for non-removal of posts relating to child pornography and drug abuse.
