An evacuation center is getting set up at Golden Gate Fields.
A large plume of smoke was seen above Albany Hill as firefighters raced to contain a grass fire that prompted people in at least three Bay Area neighborhoods to evacuate on Sunday afternoon.
“All 7 engines are working Albany’s #cleveland incident, with both truck companies staffing brush rig and type 3 wildland unit,” the department said on Twitter. “Alameda County and Oakland Fire departments are covering #berkeley currently.”
The Berkeley Fire Department said it was also responding to the blaze with backup from the El Cerrito Fire Department, adding that the fire began near the intersection of Cleveland and Washington avenues.
