EU ombudsman SLAMS Ursula von der Leyen for secret Pfizer CEO texts
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been handed a formal recommendation to hand over details of secret texts she sent to Pfizer bosses as the Big Pharma corporation negotiated a 1.8bn Covid jab dose deal with the EU.
According to EU ombudsman Emily O’Reilly, Von der Leyen’s actions “constituted maladministration” – not “personal diplomacy”, as the Commission chief had called it.
O’Reilly’s inquiry accused the Commission of falling short of “transparency and administrative standards” by apparently not even asking von der Leyen to look for the messages.
