SPY GAME’S UP! EU Justice Chief gunning for Pegasus
The European Justice Commissioner has “totally condemned” alleged attempts by national security agencies to illegally snoop on political opponents using hacking software, Pegasus.
“Various reports have shown that certain national security services used Pegasus spyware, to have direct access to citizens, equipment, including political opponents and journalists,” David Reynders told MEPs.
17 media outlets worked together to reveal in July how global clients of the Israeli surveillance firm NSO Group had used hacking software to target human rights activists, journalists and lawyers.
Most famously Jamal Khashoggi who was killed in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul in 2018.
