Around 1:10 a.m., police say officers were called to the 1500 block of Belsly Boulevard in Moorhead, Minnesota for a call about a 3-year-old boy who wasn’t breathing.
According to dispatch audio, a woman was screaming “breathe baby boy, breathe” while on the phone with the 911 operator.
The child was taken to the hospital by ambulance but he later died.
The victim was identified as 3-year-old Eastyn Deronjic.
At the time of his death, Moorhead Police said Deronjic and his younger sibling had been living at the apartment for an extended time, under the primary care of acquaintances of their biological parents.
Moorhead Police say the investigation has been ongoing, and autopsy results were recently received.
On July 8, the Clay County Attorney’s Office issued warrants for the arrests of 21-year-old Shiann Erickson and 24-year-old Rosa Garza and both were taken into custody.
Moorhead Police say Erickson and Garza have been booked into the Clay County Correctional Facility on Second Degree Murder Without Intent charges.
Police say the younger sibling remains in protective custody.
