Emir Thomas faces attempted murder charge in connection ISU campus shooting
Emir Thomas, 19, was arrested in Chicago by the U.S. Marshals.
He’s been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery-discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to an Illinois State University Police Department Facebook post.
On April 28, a man was taken to a local hospital with injuries after a shooting occurred near the Bone Student Center at approximately 7:40 p.m.
The university’s police worked with the Illinois State Police and the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office, leading up to the arrest.
Authorities said Thomas has no connection to the university.
“We recognize that waiting for the full results of an investigation can feel uncertain and unsettling,” Chief Aaron Woodruff said.
“Throughout this process, our community’s safety and well-being have remained our highest priorities.
I want to thank our officers, dispatchers, and our law enforcement partners for their diligence, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the safety of our campus community.”
